Bertram Safferling Signature Large “Quail” Shaped Pipe W/ Thick Leather Sleeve

German pipe maker Bertram Safferling (now living in Italy), has been on the pipe making scene for several decades. His annual production is low as he says he is quite meticulous with his work and does not cut corners to speed up his production. His signature shape is what he calls “The Quail,” and this is a large and well grained example of that shape. The pipe also boasts a unique sort of boxwood stem trim. The inner bowl is quite clean and frankly, doesn’t appear to have been smoked much. The stem is free of any tooth impressions.

Pipe Size & Weight:

  • Length: 6-1/4 inches
  • Bowl Height: just over 2-inches
  • Rim Width: a little over 1-1/4 inches
  • Chamber width: .75 inches
  • Weight: 85.0 grams
  • Stem Material: Ebonite

Please Note: All previously owned and smoked pipes in Pipestud’s Consignment Shop have had the tobacco chambers reamed (if needed), and the exteriors polished. No internal cleaning has been done as I leave that very personal part of the ready to smoke process up to each buyer. I never sell estate pipes with undisclosed issues. If you are not totally satisfied with your purchase, all you need to do is return the pipe to me in the same condition that you received it in (you cannot have smoked the pipe), and you will receive an immediate refund including any shipping fees you incurred.
